The Top 5 Poems of
the Month

We Stayed
You and I
we sat down
in the quiet pastures
the soft green,
gazing at the slow river
and its silent sparkling;
we are almost touching.
And then the rain came,
creeping, but we stayed
clinging;
we are surprised and aching.
We stay –
our hearts singing,
our hearts buzzing
and suddenly our bodies,
magnetized, are charged
and we are kissing
in the long rain.
And we throw ourselves down
on the soaking ground
and writhe in the noisy wet.
And we cry out in the storm
to the god of pleasure,
and groan with the thunder
for the sacred treasure,
and we drowned out the tempest
when the treasure was found.
You and I,
we are lying in the sun,
in the green pastures,
the soft green,
dripping;
we are still touching.

Here
are the other four winning poems for
this month.
Bridges Over Troubled Waters On route to an interview (and an I.T. test)
I walked across London Bridge
not looking or feeling my best,
It was 8am on a Monday
I wished I had a job
I wished I was there for a ‘fun’ day
As I battled passed commuter crowds,
the growing light blocked by clouds,
mist rose up above the water,
beams of speckled sunlight in the morning haze,
revealed a spectacular sight –
I stopped in my tracks open mouthed as I gazed
- across the water against a dim grey sky,
Tower Bridge stood bathed in a golden light.
Euphoria filled the air!
As if thousands of thousands of thoughts of this vision,
from hundreds of years were still there.
At that moment – I was with them all
transfixed – I gasped in awe,
It was magic – it was special
(and something to fondly recall)
- Which compensates quite well,
As the interview was terrible
And the I.T. test was hell.

The Defeated Nation
Running from truth – childhood innocence subsides
Trapped and vulnerable
Nobody helps me hide
I cannot endure the cold and darkness clouds my eyes,
I stumble blindly onto broken glass
All those promises were lies.
Frustration gnaws at my energy
Malicious apathy infests,
Although my heart beats faster now
My body needs more rest.
Tears like shattering rain penetrate this mask I wear,
Lightning threatens my progression
And I’ve lost my mind I swear!
I clench my fists and scream
But nobody can hear,
Mocked by my own echo – echo
I pray there’s someone near.
Geared not to the Present but to Nostalgia and Anticipation,
I surrender myself – A citizen of The Defeated Nation

Farewell
Hush, listen now. Embrace the sound
Of fears departed; whispered peace;
A kiss goodbye and Heaven found;
Hush, listen now. Embrace this sound –
And silence prayers for time rewound;
Rest. Heaven’s bid your soul’s release;
So listen now, and bless the sound
Of fears departed; Rest in Peace.

Attraction
Standing at the station, waiting for the train,
A face is in the distance, staring back in vain.
Our eyes are locked for a moment, then turn and look away,
I look back and see, your eyes were there to stay.
I feel my face getting warmer, my heart missing a beat,
Who is this lovely stranger sitting on that seat.
The train arrives at the platform, it’s time to leave the bay,
I feel myself go heavy, my body wants to stay.
A strong electric attraction, one you can’t explain.
I turn, walk, have one last glance,
was this my one and only chance?
Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t.
All I know is I was bedazzled.
