‘Memory
Lane’.
Memory
Lane
by
Jill
Hudson
How
things
have
changed
The
green
land
where
we
ran
the
course
Now
lea
land
thick
with
burs
and
gorse
The
public
house
where
old
men
sat
And
told
their
tales
and
coughed
and
spat
Now
haute
cuisine
-
at
what
a
price
(Although
the
food
is
very
nice)
The
villa
where
I
passed
teen
days
Under
my
parents’
loving
gaze
Is
now
a
sad
tale
of
neglect
No
gates
to
welcome
or
protect
The
driveway
overgrown
with
weeds
Who
knows
inside
who
does
what
deeds
What
rites
of
passage
there
unfold
It’s
best
not
to
return,
I’m
told
To
try
to
live
the
past
unwise
I
now
live
under
Midland
skies
Where
peace
of
mind’s
the
greatest
worth
Best
drive
my
car
and
travel
north
And
leave
behind
this
place
of
youth
Where
memory
does
not
match
the
truth.
